I would like to know the answer too. Anyone here know what is the answer. I'll do some research in Google and get back to you if I got an answer. You should email the people at Nutrisystem as they probably can help you..

I see the following; 3 days in a row down, next day a jump up, next day flat, next day down resulting in 1 pound off during the week. That has been my schedule for the past 2 months. The first month it just fell off, so I am getting used to this new approach...

Hammer,.
What I have noticed from alot of guys here is that there is an initial honeymoon where weight loss will go down 5-7 lbs. the first week. Than 2-4 lbs the rest of the first month. Thank it stabilizes to somewhere around 1-2 lbs. the rest of the way. As for fluctuations, I do weigh everyday and would notice that I would actually gain a bit on some days. But than thats right now and the scale has been stalling for me.. Ben.. |

My personal experience is that yes, there are spurts. My official weigh day is Monday. After that my weight seems to remain static or even go up a pound or two during the week. It's weird, but I seem to lose weight on the weekend when I am really less active. Go figure. But as long as the graph goes down, IAG...

I agree with the leveling off every once in a while. I think the time to get concerned is when the scale goes up instead of either straight or down. Yellerdog, your chart is amazing! That's one long steady line downward. Mine had more bumps..
Hammer, the best antidote for leveling off is more water... |
|
If I drink more water I will explode my liver....I am drinking at least 2 gallons of water a day..
I realize water levels things out...but it doesn't make up for calories in-calories out. Starting about 3 days ago I decided to find my own cure for leveling out...and that is to amp up my gym routine.. So far so good...I'm in the middle of a "spurt" and can't wait for my official Sunday weigh day... |
|
Hammer, that is normal. That is why it is important to know your physical measurements and body fat % s well as notice the fit of your clothes. I have has weeks where I lose very little or even gain but those seem to be the weeks when my clothes gets looser. Another tool I will sometimes use is a pre-planned off plan meal if I notice I seem to be stagnant (measurement and weight wise) for more than 2 weeks...

Yeah...I didn't measure when I started but I think I am going too now...take pictures too..
On previous weight loss ventures I would use a splurge meal to kickstart weight loss and surprisingly it works. I am usually higher the next day but then I start losing again.. Don't get me wrong guys...I get the whole on average thing....I just thought it odd I could lose nothing for a few days then drop 2 lbs all at once. I've lost consistently since starting so I am good with that.. I have decided to ramp up my exercise routines for a couple of reasons...as I have lost weight I feel MUCH better about exercising and I can handle more now and I also know it will kickstart me in the butt.. We'll see.....hope everyone has a great week... |
|
I've seen the exact same pattern.. and do what you do also.. "official" weigh ins once a week but spot checks throughout.. I find that I usually stay even M-Th, and for some reason F thru Su I lose more.. for me, it's probably because I work a desk job and I'm more active on the weekends.. not sure, but as a previous posted said, as long as it goes down, it's all good....

I imagine that it will depend upon your state of hydration at the time that you weigh The types of food that you eat has an definate effect on hydration state...the amount of salts, blood sugar which includes carbs, (salts and blood sugar has an effect on the osmolality of the blood) digestion rates (think BBGGs), and basal metabolism effect this, not only the amount of water that you drink. Even if you drink water in the amounts you are supposed to on the Plan, hydration at the cellular level still will likely fluctuate. And since water is relatively heavy (dense), just a 1% change in hydration state either way, might be causing the variability you are seeing...and don't forget about your poop chute...hydration state of the feces, and "regularity" issues..
Remember, if you are a 200 lb guy (I wish!) and if you fluctuate during the day (which is likely) by 1% either way, means that you could fluctuate. +. 2 lbs... a 4 lb range... |

Where does muscle weight come in to this whole thing? My body tends to build muscle really fast (may have to do with my age). I gain weight sometimes and my pants will fit better. What the heck? Is this wishful thinking or is there some helpful data as to muscle weight gain?..
|
|
Muscle tissue is a lot more dense than fat tissue. Weight can be a good indicator of where you are if you have a lot to lose, but there will come a time when you want to pay more attention to BMI or body fat percentage. Nutrisystem is about losing fat, primarily..
I'm shooting for 175 myself, but I would be happy at 12% or 15% body fat even if I weighed in the upper 190's. It's carrying around all that excess fat that wears a body's health down. The pants fitting well are one of the best signs of trimming down you've got. I know I've got a pair of 32's in the drawer that I'm aiming for. If I hit 30, I'm buying a new wardrobe!.. |

@Cajundood...
Thanks for all that info on hydration!! I didn't realize how much that had to do with weight.. also I see the recurring theme of drinking lots of water on these boards.. I have to confess I've been ignoring that advice.. now I'm down to losing only about 1 lb a week.. so I think I'll give the H20 thing a shot and see if I can get back into the 2-3 lb range!. Steve.. |
|
Speaking of water, I have had my 64 oz already (I work a swing shift now and go to bed at 4 am Eastern). I have eight more hours to go. I may get another 32 oz in today. Has anyone had this kind of experience?.
Note: I just started my exercise program and I'm using a Garmin heart monitor to help me in a walking program. Yesterday I did three miles (two at a slow walk and one with my heart rate at zone 2 - basically fast walking)!.. |
|
Yes!!!!! This is what I plan on doing, gauging my progress by how my clothes fit rather then what the scale says..
I played Division II football and baseball and at 5" 8" weighed around 190lbs but I wasn't fat. I still comfortably wore 32" pants even though the weight loss charts labeled me as obese. It all depends on body fat percentage and at this time I was around 10% body fat.. My problem is that once I stopped working out I didn't stop the eating that I needed to keep that 190lbs on during football season. Poor eating habits, laziness and a lack of exercise has resulted in a big old fat body. I need to lose it as I'm slowly killing myself with all of this extra weight. Hopefully this plan works for me... |
|
I think you guys need to rethink your opinion of BMI...because it is very misleading..
If you were heavy for your height then your BMI is what labels you as obese....even though you say you weren't.. Bodyfat percentage is a very good indicator of how much fat you are carrying but BMI is uber-misleading in some cases... |
|
Bill,.
The simple answer is yes, it does.. I would add that while you'll still weigh yourself every day, pick one day a week as your "official" day and look at that number and ignore the other days... |
